Lazing on a Sunday afternoon

Lazing on a Sunday afternoon.

With no ill effects from a truly memorable Saturday night I rose invigorated and happy. The mood I was in could only have been made better by Frances being here but I had spoken to her just before going to sleep last evening and that had rounded off a near perfect day.

The weather was as it always is in Ireland; unpredictable, rain followed by light showers with the sun trying to peek through the clouds whenever it could. Chilly as expected but that didn’t stop us venturing out to Marley Park for Breakfast.

The menu was not the usual breakfast type menu of bacon and eggs etc. but a selection of toasted sandwiches and more. I had a delicious toasted ham, and cheese served with a little salad and crisps.

It seemed to be the perfect meal for the time and place. The ‘restaurant’ had an energy about it with runners and walkers having tea, coffee and possible more after their exercise routine. The hubbub of excited conversation filled the room and while it made conversation a little difficult it created a great atmosphere. The décor was unique, almost quaint I suppose. The usual motley crew of Susan, Rosin, Eileen , Kees and yours truly was there. Susan’s brother David and his wife Bernadette joined us and I had a fantastic chat with David.

We swopped experiences of business and life and laughed long and hard many times. Such a bonus to meet David who I have not seen for a very long time; probably since his wedding day but that could just be a senior moment on my part. I was thrilled to hear Bernadette plays Badminton and look forward to playing a game with her sooner rather than later.

We went to visit my cousin Eileen who, typical of her sense of humour and very positive attitude was celebrating the 6th anniversary of her stroke: a stroke that has left her virtually immobile but did nothing to dampen her joie de vivre. Her mental acuity seems remarkable considering the intensity of the stroke. She can recall events from years ago and calls to mind telephone numbers and details of recent events with ease. She gives credence to the adage “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. We had a most enlightening and entertaining 2 hours with Eileen. As we left we met with Eileen’s (cousin) husband Tom and his sister Rita.

The rest of the afternoon was spent “Lazing on a Sunday afternoon” ; catching up on my blog and relaxing.

We decided not to go “out” for dinner and “ordered in” Kees and I had the famous Burdocks fish and chips and the girls had a selection Asian food. The evening mellowed with a couple of Rum and cokes and fabulous conversation.
