Follow Me Up to Sligo

Follow me up to Sligo

Monday morning arrived slowly. We eased into the day to allow some of our ‘crew’ attend to some business demands. Once again we had a leisurely Irish breakfast before I went to my dental appointment.

It was great to meet again my friend Michael Bushell from the dental Hospital. Even though it’s been possibly 20 years or more, it felt like we had been chatting just yesterday. I wondered if I was asking too much of Michael but he assured me he would make things right.

We left for Sligo immediately after my appointment and made good time despite the continuous rain. The dull grey day was best spent travelling so we were glad the way things worked out.

We stopped for coffee and I had a scone with butter and jam; a delicacy from my youth which was not quite up to the quality of my memory but quite delicious just the same. Eileen and Kees had carrot cake.

We reached Kees’s and Eileen’s cottage mid-afternoon and having settled in we drove back into Boyle and Creighton’s pub where we enjoyed a nice pint of Guinness and a game of pool.

Frances called while we were there and we updated each other on our current exploits. It was great to hear her cheerful voice and reduced my missing her just a tad.

We called and made arrangements for dinner and cards tomorrow night (Tuesday March 31th). Mark is otherwise engaged on Tuesday but we will see him Wednesday. We finished the day with a game of cards, ‘Lift’.
